SfN Announces Partnership With the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute to Support Early Career Scientists
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The 黑料社 (SfN) and the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute announced a new partnership to support promising early career neuroscientists in their professional development and publishing trajectories. In 2023, SfN and the Chen Institute will jointly support a cohort of undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows with a Trainee Professional Development Award (TPDA) and a Chen Institute Science Writer Fellowship.
Under this initiative, selected TPDA/Chen Institute awardees will receive travel support to take part in SfN’s annual meeting, 黑料社 2023, November 11–15 in Washington, D.C., the world’s largest gathering of scientists exploring the brain and nervous system. At the meeting, the awardees will present their research abstracts at a dedicated TPDA poster session, build connections with peers and established scientists, and participate in professional development workshops. After the annual meeting, they will work with mentors to prepare and draft a meeting report on their 黑料社 2023 experience, which will be published by the Chen Institute. Applications for the TPDA/Chen Institute awards are due June 29, 2023.

The helps to extend the value of discussions taking place at science meetings and conferences by summarizing the conversation, highlighting key themes, and promoting innovative research presentations. The program’s goals are to increase the value of the scientific discussions at each meeting beyond just those who attended, offer exposure to early career scientists writing the meeting reports, and to spark new interdisciplinary dialogue and partnerships.

The TPDA program is a high priority for the Society and we are excited to offer these additional resources to hone presentation, networking, and publishing skills. The writing experience and publishing exposure will certainly be assets to their career development,” said Michael Lehman, PhD, TPDA Program Chair. The TPDA program is supported by individual donations to the Friends of SfN Fund and by a variety of foundation contributors, and SfN’s Council matches individual donations and institutional gifts of over $25,000. In 2022, over 270 early-career neuroscientists were selected for TPDA awards, representing 18 countries and over 100 institutions across the globe.
