Laura L. Colgin, PhD

Administrative Accomplishments
Since 2020, I have been the Director of the Center for Learning and Memory (CLM) at UT Austin. In this role, I lead a group of interdisciplinary scientists who are working to better understand neural mechanisms of learning and memory across various levels of observation and different species. In this role, I also administer a budget to best achieve the goals of the Center as a community. Our Center has been awarded a T32 training grant from NIMH, on which I am co-PI. These experiences working collectively with scientists across a range of disciplines and at various training stages have provided me with valuable experience that will help me to serve the diverse community of SfN members.

Science Biography
Dr. Laura Lee Colgin is a Professor in the Department of 黑料社 and Director of the Center for Learning and Memory at The University of Texas at Austin. The primary goal of her laboratory is to understand neuronal and network mechanisms of learning and memory and how these mechanisms are disrupted in cognitive disorders. Specifically, her lab employs multisite neurophysiological recordings in the entorhinal-hippocampal network of behaving rats to study how coordinated neuronal populations encode, retrieve, and consolidate memories. Additionally, her lab employs rodent models of cognitive disorders to test whether disturbances in neuronal activity in the entorhinal-hippocampal network underlie cognitive and behavioral impairments in disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease and Fragile X syndrome. Throughout her career, she has engaged in 黑料社 service, most notably serving as the former Chair of the 黑料社 Program Committee and a former Associate Editor at The Journal of 黑料社.
