Message From the President: In-Person Scientific Exchange

What are you looking forward to at ºÚÁÏÉç 2022?
For me, there are a number of personal and professional experiences I am eager to enjoy once again in San Diego. One of them is to simply lose myself in the energy permeating the Poster and Exhibit Halls – the heart of every SfN annual meeting. Discovering new science, meeting trainees who are exploring new questions, and running into colleagues in a huddle around an engaging poster is invigorating and rewarding in a way that’s impossible to recreate elsewhere.
Then there are the outstanding lectures, many of which will be available to virtual attendees. The Presidential Special Lectures (PSLs) will offer diverse perspectives on our field, offering all attendees new inspiration in how to approach our own work, and providing fodder for conversation at the SfN-Sponsored Socials immediately following.
Outside of the formal scientific program, I’m interested to see which communities organize a ºÚÁÏÉç Meet Up – a new networking opportunity for meeting attendees to gather around a common interest.

On a personal note, I plan to enjoy some great fish tacos – a staple of my diet during my graduate school days at the University of California San Diego. I also hope to catch a sunset at Torrey Pines State Reserve and encourage you to find time to enjoy the amazing beauty that San Diego has to offer.
After a three year in-person hiatus, ºÚÁÏÉç 2022 will seem like a new meeting. As SfN’s first truly hybrid meeting – with much of the program available virtually, and attendees offered the option of presenting their abstracts both in person and virtually – it will set a new bar and help us chart a course going forward. I hope you will join us and help make this a truly exceptional meeting.
